Canvassing app: volunteer guide

How to sign up, walk your turf, record each door, help someone register, and stay within the rules. Works on any phone; no app store needed. Updated Oct 3, 2026.

Open the canvassing app

1. Get started

Sign up (one time)

  1. Open the app link your organizer gave you and tap the Sign up tab.
  2. Enter your name, email, and a password (6 or more characters), then tap Ask to join.
  3. You'll get an email right away confirming we received your request (from RACC Canvassing <[email protected]> — check spam the first time). You can't see any voter information until the organizer approves you; when that happens you get a second email with your sign-in link.
  4. Next time, use the Sign in tab. Forgot your password? Tap Forgot password? and follow the link, or ask the organizer to send you a reset.

Put it on your home screen

It then opens like a normal app, full screen.

Do this at home on Wi-Fi first. Open your turf once while you have a good connection so it is ready if you lose signal at the door.

2. Walking a turf

After you sign in, the home screen shows Today's campaign (the race the organizer picked for the day, so you don't have to choose) and a list of your turfs.

Tap a turf to open it. You can switch between two views at the bottom:

The tabs on the home screen are Turf (your walk list), Ballot (what you're walking for), Areas (results by area) and People (volunteer progress).

3. Recording a door

After each knock, tap the one result that fits. This is what counts as a knock.

TapUse it when
SupporterThey said they support our candidate.
UndecidedThey're open or haven't made up their mind.
OpposedThey said they support someone else.
Left material · not homeYou knocked, nobody answered, you left a door hanger.
Materials only · no knockYou left materials without knocking (the dot turns black). To do a whole street at once, open the ☰ Streets panel on the map and tap Mark done beside the street. If you do talk to someone later, tap the dot and record the real result — it replaces “materials only”. Marked the wrong street by mistake? Open ☰ Streets and tap Un-mark on that street — it removes only the materials-only marks you made. Wrong house? Tap its dot and use Undo materials-only mark. Anything else, tell the organizer.
MovedThe voter no longer lives there.
RefusedThey didn't want to talk.

Made a mistake? Just tap the correct result for that door; the most recent result is the one shown for that door.

Someone wants to register to vote

Tap + Someone here is not on the list, tick Wants to register, enter their email and tap Save. The app emails them the official Florida registration link (and the paper form) on the spot. If they'd rather not share an email, tell them to search RegisterToVoteFlorida.gov.

Never collect, fill in, or hand in a registration form for anyone. Under Florida law that makes us a "third-party voter registration organization" with its own rules and fines. We point people to the State's site; they register themselves.

4. Notes: voter questions and follow-ups

Notes are not knocks. They never change your count. Use a note when a voter raises a civic or voting question you couldn't fully answer, or wants something from us.

  1. Open the door and tap Add a note.
  2. Type what came up, for example "Asked where to vote early" or "Worried about mail ballots".
  3. If a follow-up is needed, choose one: Bring a yard sign, Bring more information, or other.
  4. Tap Save note.

The note is saved with the address, the date and time, and who lives there, so the organizer knows exactly who to go back to. You can add more than one note to a door.

See your own notes: tap the bold ✎ My notes button on the home screen. You see only your notes. The organizer sees everyone's, with follow-ups listed first.

Be respectful with what you record. Write what was asked or requested, not personal opinions about the person. Voter information is for our campaign only: don't screenshot, share or post it.

5. No signal?

Keep walking. If you lose signal, results and notes are saved on your phone and sent automatically when you're back online. A small badge shows how many are waiting. Don't sign out until it clears. If you open the app and your campaign or turf changed, it will take you back to the home screen to reload.

6. Ballot tab

Tap Ballot to see the races you're walking for and the statewide amendments (amendments need 60% to pass). It's a quick cheat sheet for the conversation at the door.

7. Rules at the door

The short version — the full law text with what to say is under ⚖ Rules in the app and on racc1776.com/volunteers.

If questioned: stay polite, say "I'm a volunteer sharing election information — happy to leave if you'd like," offer to show the Rules page, and go. Never argue on a doorstep.

8. Troubleshooting

“That email already has an account” when signing upYou signed up before. Use the Sign in tab, or Forgot password? to set a new one. If you are still waiting to be approved, nothing more to do.
